I just recently read a book, it's called the Bezos Letters, and it is 14 growth principles as to how Jeff Bezos grew Amazon as fast as he did. Dude makes approximately, this has been reported, I don't know if it's 100% true, but he's one of the richest men on the planet, if not the richest man on the planet, and he makes $8 million an hour.

And he's still to this day leverages something called a day one mentality. And when I read this book and I read that principle, I was like, "Oh my gosh, it's so simple, but so effective." So what does it mean? What it means is that if you want to be successful at anything you do and you want to grow a successful business, a successful YouTube channel, if you want to go after anything, or even a great relationship, having a day one mentality is a key part of it. So this is something that I've cultivated for a long time I guess without even knowing what it was called, and since reading this book.
That's exactly what I need to be harvesting at all times." So I would say one of the biggest reasons that companies stall, fail, or don't ever get off the ground is because you try and get fancy too quickly. And so part of my whole culture and company and everything in the last year has been to keep things very simple, lean and effective.
So we have what we call a tiny but mighty culture. And one of the things that Jeff Bezos does, which I think is hilarious, is when he first started Amazon he was using doors as desks because it was cheaper and more efficient to use doors as desks for his first employees than it was to go out and buy desks. So that's just a little example and they still actually have some of those door desks in Amazon today as a reminder to always keep it simple, lean, and efficient.
So just little things like filming in my house and not getting super fancy with the equipment that we use or getting super crazy with the editing that we're doing is part of our very lean day one mentality. Now, am I comparing myself to Jeff Bezos? No, but I do think every single entrepreneur or somebody who wants to be an entrepreneur needs to learn this lesson. And if you want to build an amazing business, become a millionaire, become a billionaire, like Jeff Bezos and have all of the things you want in your life, that day one mentality should be cultivated in everything you do.
I read the book and I was like, "This could be applied in my relationships as well," because when you first start dating somebody, you'll go above and beyond and you want to be your best self at all times and you want to show up as your best for that person. Then you get a few years into the relationship and you start to kind of let things go and it'll get a little comfortable and that when relationships go south.
One of the biggest complaints that people have about their relationships is that, "Oh, he's too comfortable," or, "She's too comfortable and it's boring." Well, if you always think in that day one mentality of, "What would I do if this was the very first date that we were going on?" Or, "What would I do if we just met to impress this person? So if you can cultivate that in your day today and in your relationships as well, I started doing it and it honestly is a game-changer. So you want to think scrappy, lean, efficient, and cultivate a day one mentality in everything that you do, but particularly if you want to blow up and build a business in 2020 and have an amazing year.
This one principle could change your life and I always say to people, "You've got to go after it like your life depends on it because it does." So if you say to me, "I want to build this multimillion-dollar business," and you're not doing the work to do it or figuring out how to do the work to do it or getting super scrappy about it, it's not going to happen and you don't want it that badly. If you want it that badly, that day one mentality will kick in and you will do anything and everything you can with limited resources that you have to make it happen.
You've got a phone, use your phone to film. That's what I started with. You have a window, that's your lighting. You don't need a fancy camera. You want to keep it lean and simple and remove complications because that is the key to long-lasting legacy success. So I wanted to share this with you because honestly it has been a game-changer for me in my life since I read this book, since I started implementing that principle, and even more so, harvesting it in my life because I think I've always thought that way, but now I have a name for it. And your life does depend on it.
You want to be at the 1%, you want to make a lot of money, well, the people who are doing that are working their faces off to get there and doing the work and not talking about what they want and not talking about trying. I heard a really good quote recently from a guest on my podcast who said trying is lying. So they're not just trying, they're doing the work, and they're getting creative and they're figuring it out. And even if you don't have the things that you think you need to start a business or start a YouTube channel, I can guarantee you sitting around you right now, you probably do.
So just start and get scrappy about it and have that day one mentality. So it's kind of a rant. I hope I was helpful. Let me know.
